Stock notes from October 7, 2026, and what we could not confirm

Prices and stock change often. On October 7, 2026, Newegg sold the Samsung G90XF only in bundles with a headset, keyboard and mouse, from $1,584.99 [33]. Looking Glass's home page showed the Go and the 16-inch display shipping in 2 to 3 days [17]. Both store pages also carry a "Sold out" label [8][10], so check at checkout.

Which is the best 3D monitor for your use

It depends on what you want to see in 3D; we found no published test that ranks all seven. Find your use, then check your graphics card against the computer each needs.

UseModels that fitKnow first

With streaming on any of these, you are watching a 2D picture converted by software, not a film's own 3D version. The 15.6-inch ViewX Liber and CubeVi P1 are also portable, and are crowdfunded [20][24].

What each one shows in 3D, and the PC it needs

Six of the seven need a computer to show 3D, and the Looking Glass Go also runs without one. Check the second column against what you want to watch, and the third against your graphics card.

What the cells leave out:

  • Acer Predator. 3D does not run over DisplayPort alone [3].
  • Owl3D Shift. "Any window" includes games and browser video. The computer listed is for real-time conversion; side-by-side playback needs less, as the Shift section explains.
  • Samsung. More than 120 games are promised [13]. Video conversion needs the NVIDIA card, and it does not work on DRM content (the copy protection paid streaming services use) or with HDR on [31].

Are 3D monitors worth it? What reviewers say

It depends on whether what you want to watch or play is supported, and on whether one viewer and a set viewing position suit you (see the limits they share). Published reviews are split. We tested none of the others ourselves, and we quote no verdict on the Shift, because we make it.

Acer

Predator SpatialLabs View 27. Tom's Hardware gave it 4 out of 5 in August 2025 [3]. PCWorld gave it 2 out of 5 in July 2025, citing a short list of compatible games, visual glitches and a high price, and noting that two people cannot see the 3D at the same time [29].

SpatialLabs View Pro 27. TechRadar's unscored hands-on from December 2024 recommended it for creators and developers who work in 3D [7].

Looking Glass

Go. Cult of Mac gave it 4 out of 5 in January 2025 and praised how it turns iPhone photos into 3D images. It listed limits: portrait orientation only, a 58-degree viewing angle, and a small screen that suits a picture of one person, or of two or three standing close together [37].

16" Light Field Display. We found no published review.

Samsung Odyssey 3D G90XF

Reviewers liked

  • Decent for PC gaming, with a score of 7.1 from RTINGS [30]
  • "This monitor is fantastic, but it is still new tech and probably not for everyone," TechAeris wrote in April 2025 [38]

Reviewers faulted

  • Its 3D works with a limited number of games [30]
  • The screen is harder to view off-angle [38]
  • Some of the reviewer's family found the 3D uncomfortable [38]

Sony Spatial Reality Display ELF-SR2

We found no published review.

Limits shared by glasses-free 3D monitors

  • Lower resolution in 3D. A lens divides the panel between two eyes, so each eye generally gets slightly less than half its resolution [28]. Makers' own figures are half the panel's width: Lenovo lists 1920 x 2160 in 3D on a 3840 x 2160 panel [27].
  • A sweet spot. These screens work within a set distance and angle. Lenovo gives 60 to 100 cm and 20 degrees to either side [27].
  • Ghosting. Light meant for one eye can leak to the other. The leak is called crosstalk, and it shows as a faint double image [28].

The Owl3D Shift in brief

We make the Shift, so this section is the maker's own description, not a review.

A person at a desk with a desktop monitor, and the Owl3D Shift standing beside it as a smaller second screen.
The Shift is a 14-inch display used as a second screen beside a computer; the beams of light are drawn in to suggest the 3D effect. Image: Owl3D.

One viewer sees the 3D at a time, at about 45 to 100 cm. When several people take turns, the Shift automatically finds the person who should be seeing it. It also works as an ordinary 2D 4K monitor, and it is not a hologram.

The Owl3D app has four features for the Shift:

  • Live 3D Screen converts whatever is on the PC screen to 3D instantly. Drag any window onto the Shift (a video, a game, a browser, photos) and it is converted in real time, as it plays, with no waiting and no file to prepare. It is AI depth estimation from a flat picture, not a film's own 3D version and not stereo rendered from a game's geometry.
  • Stereo 3D Playback shows 3D content that already exists. The Shift detects a Full side-by-side, Half SBS or top-bottom picture on its screen and renders it in 3D.
  • 3D Photo Viewer makes a 3D picture from an ordinary 2D photo, with a perspective that changes as you move your head.
  • 3D Model Viewer opens .glb, .gltf and .3mf files.

Live 3D Screen has two conditions. Multiplayer competitive games and games with anti-cheat software often block screen capture, and when they do the Shift cannot convert them. Netflix and other copy-protected streaming work in a web browser, but the browser's hardware acceleration must be turned off first; Owl3D's tutorial video shows the setting. We have not confirmed desktop streaming apps. Streaming services set their own terms of use. This is not legal advice.

Its limits: the Shift has no built-in player, tuner, apps or disc drive, so a game console or disc player cannot be plugged straight in. At 14 inches it is a desk display, not a living-room screen.

What plugs in, and the computer it needs in full

What plugs in: the eye-tracking camera's USB cable, video by Mini HDMI or USB-C, and USB-C power. Image: Owl3D, from the Shift manual.

On a Mac, M1 Pro or better is recommended for real-time conversion; a MacBook Air works, but the picture can stutter unless the laptop is kept cool. AMD graphics cards are not supported for real-time conversion. Playing existing side-by-side 3D needs less: an NVIDIA GTX 1650 or Radeon RX 570 or better.

How glasses-free 3D works

A picture looks 3D when each eye gets its own, slightly different image and the brain combines the two. A glasses-free screen sorts the two images at the panel instead of at your face [28]. The monitors on sale do it in one of two ways, drawn in the diagram below.

Two ways a glasses-free screen aims its views

ScreenSecond viewer: 2DViewer
Kind of screen
A camera finds this viewer's eyes and the screen aims one view at each. Move, and the two views follow, so the 3D holds. The second viewer is not being followed and sees an ordinary 2D picture.A diagram of where each view can be seen, not of any product's optics. Blue and brown mark different views; drag the viewer or use the slider.
Eye-tracked Multi-view
Views sent Two, re-aimed as you move [28] Up to 100, typically in fixed directions [9][28]
Who sees the 3D One viewer at a time Any number of viewers inside the cone [17]
On sale from Acer, Owl3D, Samsung, Sony Looking Glass

Eye tracking: two views for one viewer

An optical layer on the panel sends some pixels to your left eye and the rest to your right [28]. On the Samsung, Acer and Owl3D models it is a lenticular lens, an array of narrow cylindrical lenses, which is why these are also called lenticular displays [2][12][28]. A camera finds your eyes, and the display re-aims the two images as you move [28].

For the optics, see what is a lenticular lens.

What is a light field display?

"Light field display" is the name Looking Glass gives its screens [10]. The term is used in marketing with no enforced definition, so look at what a product does: how many views it sends, whether it tracks the viewer, and how many people can watch.

Looking Glass's displays send up to 100 separate views of a scene across a cone 53 to 58 degrees wide [9][26]. In multi-view designs the viewpoints are typically fixed instead of following one person [28], and Looking Glass says any number of viewers inside the cone see 3D at the same time [17]. The cost is detail: the more views a panel is divided into, the fewer pixels each view gets [28].

Looking Glass also calls the images on its screens "holograms" [9]. For what that word covers, see what is a hologram.

Announced, crowdfunded or hard to find

If you mean a 3D monitor that uses glasses

Monitors that need polarized glasses are still made for professional work [41].

For the consumer monitors built for Nvidia's 3D Vision glasses, see what replaced Nvidia 3D Vision. For how the glasses differ, see types of 3D glasses.

Two makers of glasses-based professional monitors: Schneider Digital and Ikegami

Schneider Digital's 3D PluraView line pairs two screens with a beam splitter and passive polarized glasses, in sizes up to 28 inches, for fields such as mapping, medical imaging and CAD [41]. Ikegami marks its 32-inch medical 3D monitor, which used polarizing glasses, as discontinued [42].

Frequently asked questions

What is a 3D monitor?

A 3D monitor, also called a stereoscopic monitor or stereoscopic display, shows each eye its own, slightly different image, so the picture appears to have depth. The conventional kind needs polarized or active-shutter glasses [28]. The monitors in this guide need none.

What is a glasses-free 3D display called?

The technical name is an autostereoscopic display: a stereoscopic display that needs no eyewear [28]. You will also see naked-eye 3D and lenticular display. Makers add names of their own, such as spatial display, light field display and holographic display. The last two have no enforced definition (see "What is a light field display?" above).

How much is a 3D monitor?

The glasses-free models listed in the US on October 7, 2026 fell into three bands. The 6-inch model started at $199 and the 14-inch was $499 [8]. The 27-inch gaming monitors were about $1,400 to $1,800 [2][11]; one store had listed the Samsung at $999.99 and was sold out [32]. The professional displays were about $2,900 to $4,750 [5][10][14]. Add the cost of a graphics card if yours is below what the monitor asks for.

Are there any glasses-free 3D TVs?

Not from a major TV brand: as of October 2026 none sells one. TCL and Visual Semiconductor showed glasses-free prototypes at CES in January 2026, and TCL's panel division showed a 32-inch glasses-free display at IFA in September [40][43]. A 3D specialist shop lists a made-to-order glasses-free display, in a professional category [44]. For what that listing says, see can you watch 3D without glasses; for TVs that use glasses, see 3D TVs in 2026.
