3D Movies on Netflix? Which Streaming Services Have 3D in 2026

Updated

How we researched this: written by Owl3D from published sources, all 53 listed at the end.

Short answer

No: Netflix has no 3D movies in October 2026. Three services stream studio 3D films today, each only on a headset: Disney+ and the Apple TV app on Apple Vision Pro, and Google TV on Samsung Galaxy XR. More is announced but not live: on September 23, 2026, Meta said Disney+ subscribers can start streaming films in 3D from November 2026 in select countries, and that Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+ are offering 3D catalogs for the first time. Its post does not say which Meta headsets get them.

Key takeaways

  • Disney+ (dozens of 3D films, included with a subscription) and the Apple TV app (more than 300, to buy or rent) play 3D only on an Apple Vision Pro: Disney+, Apple TV.
  • Announced by Meta, not live yet: Disney+ in 3D from November 2026 in select countries, first 3D catalogs from Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+, and a store for renting and buying films on Meta Quest in the US later this year. Meta has not said whether the Disney+ films and the three catalogs reach Quest 3 and 3S: what Meta announced.
  • No service we could confirm streams a 3D film to a TV, projector, phone or computer. For a TV or projector, the route is 3D Blu-ray: 3D at home.
  • Your service has no 3D? A streaming site playing in a web browser on a computer can be watched in 3D, converted instantly as it plays on the Owl3D Shift with the browser's hardware acceleration turned off. That is an AI conversion, not a 3D version from the service: how to convert a stream.
  • Free and legal 3D online is video its makers posted themselves, and none of it is a Hollywood release: free 3D.

Quick picks

On this page "3D" means stereoscopic 3D: the film sends a separate image to each eye, as in a 3D theater. It does not mean computer animation, which is what "3D" means in many streaming catalogs.

3D movies by streaming service, October 2026

Three services stream studio 3D films today, each to one headset only. YouTube adds free 3D uploads, and four more services have 3D announced.

What Meta announced on September 23, 2026

Meta announced a new VR device, Meta VR Glasses, on sale in spring 2027 for $1,299.99, and three things for people who watch films on its headsets [12]. None is live as of October 7, 2026. Every announced source is listed in 3D movies on Meta VR Glasses.

  • Disney+ in 3D. "In November, Disney+ subscribers can start streaming movies like Marvel's The Avengers, Marvel Studios' Black Panther, and more in 3D in select countries" [12].
  • Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+. They "are also offering their 3D media catalogs for the very first time" [12], [40].
  • A store. For 2D and 3D films, "you'll be able to rent or buy hundreds of movies later this year on Meta Quest in the US" [12].

What the post leaves unclear: which countries get Disney+ in 3D; whether Disney+ 3D and the three catalogs reach today's Quest 3 and 3S or only Meta VR Glasses [13]; any titles or dates for Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+; and the store's name, prices and opening date [41].

Does Netflix have 3D movies?

No. As of October 2026 Netflix streams everything in 2D. It "does not offer any content in 3D or other immersive formats and has not announced any plans to enter the field", FlatpanelsHD reported in July 2024 [2], and it is not among the streaming partners named in Meta's September 2026 announcement [12]. On a Meta Quest it plays in the web browser in HD (1080p), and its help page mentions no 3D mode [1].

Why "3D movies on Netflix" lists exist, and the 3D that Netflix streamed in 2013

Two things keep the question alive.

First, pages titled "best 3D movies on Netflix" list computer-animated films and films that played in 3D in theaters, such as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Nimona [5]. Netflix streams all of them in 2D. "3D anime" on Netflix likewise means computer-animated anime.

Second, Netflix did stream 3D once. In January 2013 it began offering "a small number of titles" in 3D, including Immortals, in the US, and only through certain internet providers [3]. That November its chief product officer, Neil Hunt, said Netflix would not be adding new 3D content [4].

How to watch Netflix in 3D anyway: convert the 2D stream as it plays

Netflix will not send you a 3D picture, but software can build one from the 2D picture on your screen. That is an AI conversion, not the 3D version that played in theaters.

Owl3D, the publisher of this guide, makes the Shift. The Owl3D Shift is a $499, 14-inch glasses-free 3D display that sits beside a computer as a second monitor. Its Live 3D Screen feature converts any window you drag onto it, including a browser playing a film, from 2D to 3D instantly, in real time: the film plays in 3D as you watch, with no waiting and no file to prepare.

The Owl3D Shift seen from the front, its screen showing the Owl3D logo inside a grid-lined room.
The Shift is a desk display: 14 inches, set beside a computer. Image: Owl3D.

It works with Netflix and other copy-protected streaming services in a web browser, once the browser's hardware acceleration is turned off. The Owl3D app's tip reads: "Black screen while streaming? Turn off graphics acceleration in your browser, then try again." Owl3D's video tutorial shows each step.

  1. Turn off hardware acceleration. It is in the browser's settings.
  2. Play the film. Use that browser.
  3. Drag the browser window onto the Shift. Live 3D Screen has to be running in the Owl3D app.
Three steps: a browser playing a film in 2D, the Owl3D app on the graphics card, and the Shift showing 3D.
The stream stays 2D in the browser; the Owl3D app creates the second view. Diagram by Owl3D.

It needs a Windows PC with an NVIDIA RTX 30-series graphics card or newer, or a Mac with Apple Silicon. It is a 14-inch desk screen that shows 3D to one viewer at a time, not a living-room screen.

What the Shift needs in full, its 3D resolution, and how it plays video that is already 3D

What it needs:

  • A computer. The Shift has no built-in apps or player. It does not work on its own or with a game console.
  • A Windows PC with an NVIDIA RTX 30-series graphics card or newer. AMD graphics cards are not supported for real-time conversion.
  • Or a Mac with Apple Silicon, running macOS 15.5 or later. An M1 Pro or better is recommended; a MacBook Air works, but the picture can stutter unless the laptop is kept cool.
  • The service playing in a web browser. That is the setup confirmed to work.

The Shift also shows video that is already side-by-side 3D, such as the free films below. Its Stereo 3D Playback feature does this: press Start on its tab in the Owl3D app, then play the video on the Shift, whether it is a file in your own media player or a side-by-side video on a web page. It handles full and half side-by-side and top-bottom pictures, and it asks less of the computer than live conversion does.

In 3D each eye sees 1920 x 2160 pixels, half the panel's horizontal resolution. Live conversion is instant. For the highest quality from a file, StereoGen, Owl3D's strongest conversion model, is coming soon; it is not instant, and takes hours to convert a video file you have the right to use.

Streaming services set their own terms of use. This is not legal advice.

Disney+ 3D movies: included, but only on Apple Vision Pro

Disney+ includes 3D films with a subscription, in its Apple Vision Pro app [6], [7]. The Disney 3D movies on the list include Avatar: The Way of Water, Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, plus animated films such as Encanto and Elemental [7] and Frozen II [8]. Avatar: Fire and Ash was announced for June 24, 2026 [11].

Disney+ 3D in detail: which plan, Meta Quest, Europe, Meta's headsets and the Muppet film

Which plan. Disney's Vision Pro page asks for "a Disney+ subscription or a Bundle plan that includes Disney+" and names no plan level [6]. UploadVR describes the 3D films as part of the Premium tier [10]. If you are on a plan with ads, check that a film offers 3D before you count on it.

Meta Quest. The app launched in December 2025 with Disney's statement that "all content is only available to stream in 2D on Quest devices at this time" [8]. Its store listing still described 2D viewing when we checked on October 7, 2026 [9].

Europe. 3D playback disappeared from Disney+ in several European countries, starting with Germany. The US was not affected as of February 2026 [10].

Meta's headsets. 3D is announced from November 2026 "in select countries", on a headset Meta has not named, and is not live yet; Meta adds that "Availability of 3D playback on Disney+ varies by region" [12]. See what Meta announced.

One more Disney title people search for: Muppet*Vision 3D, the former Walt Disney World attraction. In February 2026 Brian Henson said a version is headed to Apple Vision Pro. No date has been announced, and the report cites no confirmation from Disney [38].

Does Amazon Prime Video have 3D movies?

Probably not: Amazon's help pages and its video requirements for studios list no 3D format for Prime Video [18], [19], [43].

The evidence on Amazon Prime Video, dated, and why you may read the opposite

What Amazon's own pages show, as of October 7, 2026:

  • Prime Video's help pages for smart TVs and for streaming boxes list picture quality up to HD or Ultra HD for each device and do not mention 3D [18], [19].
  • Amazon's video requirements for companies that deliver films to Prime Video, updated August 21, 2026, list SD, HD, 4K UHD and 4K HDR. They list no stereoscopic 3D format [43].
  • Prime Video's Meta Quest app launched in September 2024 as "a 2D panel app" with 1080p playback [20]. Meta's September 2026 announcement names Prime Video as a partner for its TV app, but not among the services offering 3D catalogs [12].

What we could not check: Amazon's US store, whose "3d movies" search page did not load for us. The same search on Prime Video from outside the United States returned ordinary films such as Jurassic World and Transformers: The Last Knight, none of them marked as a 3D version, and no 3D filter [44].

Why you may read the opposite: on October 7, 2026, Google's AI Overview for the search "3d movies on amazon prime" described a Prime Video 3D catalog and named Avatar: The Way of Water, Transformers: The Last Knight and Piranha 3D. We found no Amazon page saying that Prime Video streams a 3D version of these or of any other film.

If what you want is a 3D film to own, the disc is the format still being sold. See 3D Blu-ray in 2026.

Where to watch 3D movies online for free

No licensed service streams a studio's 3D feature films for free, and we found no free site offering new 3D releases that names a studio license; be wary of sites that offer current Hollywood films in 3D for free. What is free and legal is 3D video that its makers have put online themselves. Most of it is short, and none of it is a Hollywood release.

Big Buck Bunny was released under a Creative Commons license, and stereoscopic versions followed in 2013; they are the files with "stereo" in the file name.

Beyond these, YouTube hosts 3D, VR180 (half-surround 3D) and 360-degree 3D videos uploaded by creators [23]. In the YouTube VR app you can filter search results by 3D or VR180 [24].

How to watch each kind of free 3D video: headset, side-by-side, paper glasses

How to watch each kind:

  • In a VR headset (free 3D movies online in VR). YouTube's apps on Meta Quest, Pico 4, Apple Vision Pro and Samsung Galaxy XR play 3D uploads in 3D [24], [25], [26]. See how to watch movies in VR.
  • Side-by-side video. A side-by-side (SBS) video holds the left-eye and right-eye pictures next to each other in one frame, so on an ordinary screen it looks like two squeezed copies of the film. A 3D TV, a 3D projector, a headset video player or a glasses-free 3D display combines them.
  • With paper glasses (free 3D movies online with glasses). Anaglyph videos work on any ordinary screen with colored paper glasses that match the video. See anaglyph 3D.

For more free and paid sources of 3D video, see where to find 3D videos.

3D movies on Apple TV: the largest catalog, sold film by film

The Apple TV app on Apple Vision Pro has a "3D movies" section where you buy or rent each film [14]. FlatpanelsHD counted more than 300 3D titles in late 2025 [16], [27]. New releases keep arriving; The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was added in May 2026 [11].

The Apple TV app's store in a window floating in a living room, showing Dune and a row titled Spectacular 3D Movies.

Apple's four steps for playing a 3D film on the Vision Pro

Apple's steps for playing one [14]:

  1. Open the Apple TV app. It is on the Vision Pro.
  2. Find the 3D films. Tap Vision (or Search) in the tab bar, then tap "3D movies".
  3. Pick a film. To buy or rent the 3D version you may need to scroll down to the How to Watch section of the film's page.
  4. Play it in 3D. Tap the play button, then tap Play in 3D.

Movies you bought from Apple earlier play in 3D free once a 3D version exists [14]. That upgrade does not apply to titles redeemed through Movies Anywhere [15].

The limit is the same as with Disney+. Apple's support page describes 3D playback only on the Vision Pro [14], and FlatpanelsHD's database says 3D 4K movies are "available only on the Apple Vision Pro headset" [15]. The Apple TV 4K box, and the Apple TV app on TVs, phones and computers, play the 2D version.

HBO Max, Hulu, Peacock and Paramount+

None of them streams 3D today. Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+ have first 3D catalogs announced by Meta, with no titles and no date; the post does not say whether Quest 3 and 3S get them [12].

What each of the four services' own pages say
  • HBO Max. The help page for its Apple Vision Pro app covers installation, controls and playback and says nothing about 3D [21].
  • Hulu. The 2018 edition of its guide for content suppliers says: "Hulu currently does not accept mezzanine files containing stereoscopic 3D or 360-degree video" [22]. We found no sign that has changed.
  • Peacock and Paramount+. No 3D so far, going by Meta's wording that their 3D catalogs are offered "for the very first time" [12].

What happened to 3D streaming on TVs

It went away with the TVs: all major TV makers stopped building 3D sets [39]. See 3D TVs in 2026.

When 3D TVs were on sale, services streamed 3D to them: Netflix in 2013, and Vudu from January 2011 [30]. Vudu was renamed Fandango at Home in March 2024 and plain Fandango in 2026 [31], [32].

By customer reports from 2025, Fandango's 3D catalog has shrunk to almost nothing [33], so check that a film can be bought in 3D, and that your device plays it, before you pay.

The evidence on Fandango, dated

These are customer reports, not a company statement:

  • May 25, 2025. A member of the Blu-ray.com forum reported that 100 3D titles had been removed and that Drive Angry was "now the only 3D movie available on Fandango at Home" [33].
  • November 20, 2025. The same member wrote that thirteen films were "listed in the 3D section but all are unavailable except Drive Angry in 3D and Piranha DD in 2D". Other members said films bought earlier stayed in buyers' libraries [33].
  • November 2025. FlatpanelsHD noted that "3D movies purchased from FandangoNow do not play on either Google's Android XR or Apple's visionOS" [27].

We could not load Fandango's store to see its 3D section ourselves. Google's AI Overview for Netflix 3D searches still listed Fandango at Home as a place to rent or buy 3D films on October 7, 2026.

Realistic ways to watch a 3D film at home today

A headset is a screen for one person. If you want to watch a 3D film with someone else on a TV or projector, streaming is not a practical option today.

Three routes work today besides a headset with one of the stores above and the free 3D video listed earlier.

3D Blu-ray

A Meta Quest with a player app

  • Good for 3D files you own
  • Rentals Bigscreen's Steam listing says it rents 3D films in VR [35]; its Quest store listing does not mention rentals [42], so check inside the app

A glasses-free 3D display on a computer

  • Example the Shift described above

The full walk-through is in how to watch 3D movies at home, and the films worth the effort are in the best 3D movies.

Frequently asked questions

What was Disney's first 3D animated movie?

It depends on what "3D" means. If you mean computer animation, the first Disney-released feature was Toy Story (November 22, 1995), made by Pixar and the first entirely computer-animated feature film [52]. Disney's own animation studio followed with Dinosaur (2000), which put computer-generated characters over live-action backgrounds [53], and Chicken Little (November 4, 2005), its first fully computer-animated feature [36]. If you mean 3D for glasses, Chicken Little was also Disney's first release in Disney Digital 3-D [36], and much earlier the 1953 short Melody was, in Disney's words, the "First cartoon ever filmed in 3D" [37].
