How to Watch 3D Movies on Meta VR Glasses
How we researched this: written by Owl3D from published sources, all 12 listed at the end.
Short answer
Not yet. Meta VR Glasses were announced on September 23, 2026, and go on sale in spring 2027 for $1,299.99 [1]. The 3D films announced for them come from Disney+, a Disney Immersive Cinema app, first 3D catalogs from Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+, and a store for renting and buying 2D and 3D films [1]. The earliest date given is November 2026: Disney+ in 3D in select countries, and one 3D concert film on Meta Quest [1].

Key takeaways
- Six films are named for 3D so far, among them Marvel's The Avengers, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: A New Hope: what you can watch, and when.
- If you own a Meta Quest, two things are announced for it by name before the glasses ship: a rent-or-buy film store in the US "later this year", and one 3D concert film in November 2026: what you can watch before launch.
- Budget $1,299.99 for the glasses, without controllers, and a Disney+ subscription for the Disney+ films. No rental or purchase prices are announced: what it costs.
- The glasses run the same operating system and the same Store as Meta Quest, by Meta's developer post. Which 3D file layouts the built-in player opens is not stated, so keep your 2D originals: your own video files.
- A film that exists only in 2D can be converted to a 3D file with Owl3D's converter. That is an AI conversion, not a studio's 3D version, and nothing from Owl3D has been tested on this device, which is not on sale: converting 2D films.
What 3D movies can you watch on Meta VR Glasses, and when?
The first dates are in November 2026 and the last are in 2027. This is the list in date order, from Meta's announcement of September 23, 2026 [1].
| Source | What is announced | When |
|---|---|---|
| Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (concert film) | "exclusively available to buy and rent in 3D on Quest" | November 2026, on Quest |
| Disney+ | "Marvel's The Avengers, Marvel Studios' Black Panther, and more in 3D", with themed viewing environments | November 2026, "in select countries" |
| Rent-or-buy film store, for "2D and 3D cinema" | "hundreds of movies later this year on Meta Quest in the US"; "thousands of titles available internationally" by the glasses' launch, "including 3D favorites from Lionsgate" | "Later this year" (2026) on Quest in the US; international by the glasses' launch |
| Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM (app) | "VR Enhanced versions" of Avengers: Infinity War and Star Wars: A New Hope, with "immersive environments", "dynamic effects" and "stunning 3D visuals" | When the glasses launch, spring 2027 |
| James Cameron and Lightstorm Vision | "first time in 3D" blockbusters | 2027 |
| Stuntnuts (Matthew Vaughn) | "a 3D version launching exclusively next year" | 2027 |
| Peacock, HBO Max, Paramount+ | "also offering their 3D media catalogs for the very first time" | No date given |

Three things to know when you read that list:
- Four streaming services are named for 3D: Disney+, Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+. Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Plex and Tubi "and more" are announced as apps "available through the TV app" [1]. Nothing says they will show 3D films, and no date is given.
- Disney+ in 3D depends on your country. The footnote on Meta's page reads: "Availability of 3D playback on Disney+ varies by region. Some titles shown may not be available in 3D in your country." [1]
- IMAX Enhanced is announced without a film list. Meta calls the glasses "one of the only ways to experience select films in IMAX's exclusive expanded aspect ratio at home" [1]. It gives no date and does not state whether those films are in 3D.
Meta also promises "new 3D movies releasing every month" [1], and its product page calls the result "the largest library of 3D movies on demand" [2]. Neither page gives a count of 3D titles.
What Meta has not said about each source
| Source | Not yet said |
|---|---|
| Disney+ | Which countries, how many films, and which device the November start is for |
| Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM | Price, whether Disney+ covers it, how many films |
| Peacock, HBO Max, Paramount+ | Titles, countries, dates |
| Rent-or-buy film store | Prices, the store's name, how many titles are 3D, which countries |
| James Cameron and Lightstorm Vision | Titles, and where they will be sold |
| Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour | Price |
| Stuntnuts | Date, and where it will be sold |
| The TV app's other services | Whether any of these will show 3D on the glasses |
| IMAX Enhanced | Which films, and through which service |
Meta's post also covers sports and 180-degree video (ESPN, NBA, MLB, a National Geographic app) [1]. Those are not films and are left out here. For the 3D catalogs on other devices today, see which streaming services have 3D movies.
Can you watch any of it before the glasses go on sale?
Yes, by Meta's announcement, if you have a Meta Quest. Meta's post ties two film items to Quest by name [1]:
- A rent-or-buy film store, in the US, "later this year". You will "be able to rent or buy hundreds of movies later this year on Meta Quest in the US", across 2D and 3D. No day, prices or store name are given.
- Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour, in 3D, in November 2026. The concert film co-directed by Billie Eilish and James Cameron is "exclusively available to buy and rent in 3D on Quest this November".

Disney+ in 3D is the open question. It starts in November 2026, a season before the glasses go on sale, but the sentence about it does not name a device [1]. For context: when the Disney+ app arrived on Quest in December 2025, Road to VR reported Disney's note that "all content is only available to stream in 2D on Quest devices at this time" [7]. Whether the November 3D films reach Quest 3 and Quest 3S is not confirmed in Meta's post.
The rest is not tied to Quest in Meta's text: the Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+ 3D catalogs, the Disney Immersive Cinema app and IMAX Enhanced. The Immersive Cinema app is dated to the glasses' launch [1].
A Quest already plays 3D films from your own files today, in a player app: Skybox, for example, lists 3D in side-by-side and top-bottom layouts [9]. How to watch movies in VR covers the player apps and file layouts.
What will it cost?
$1,299.99 USD for the glasses, on sale spring 2027 [1], plus what you pay for the films. No film price is announced yet.
| Item | What is announced |
|---|---|
| Meta VR Glasses | $1,299.99 USD [1] |
| Touch Plus controllers | Not in the box; sold separately [4], [5]. No price in the pages we read |
| Prescription inserts | Sold separately [2] |
| Disney+ | "Disney+ subscription required" [1] |
| Renting or buying a film | No prices announced [1] |
| Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+ 3D catalogs | No terms or prices given [1] |
Last checked : prices, in Meta's announcement and product page.
You do not need controllers for films: Meta says you can play a movie with your voice, eyes and hand gestures [1]. Touch Plus are the controllers a Quest 3 uses, and UploadVR reports that the pair from a Quest 3 or 3S can be paired with the glasses instead [5].

Meta's pages mention no monthly fee for the device itself. Its product page says "Coming early 2027" [2]. Meta does not say whether the VR Enhanced films in the Disney Immersive Cinema app are included with Disney+ or sold on their own.
Will your own 3D video files play?
That is not known yet. Meta has not named a video player app for the glasses, and none has been tested on the device. Four things are on record:
- The glasses run Quest's system and store. Meta's post for developers, dated September 24, 2026, says the glasses "run on the same operating system as Meta Quest, run the same Store and payment platform, and use the same SDKs", and that "Most existing apps should run at parity or better than Quest 3" [4]. UploadVR reports that the puck "supports all the same content" as Quest 3 [5].
- Some apps may want controllers. Meta's announcement says: "Pair Touch Plus controllers to enjoy access to the Meta Quest catalog with thousands of titles." [1] Road to VR reports that with them the glasses can play all existing content from the Horizon store [6]. Meta's developer post adds that if you use only your hands, you are shown hand-tracked titles first [4].
- Storage is reported. UploadVR reports 128GB of storage and a microSD card slot in the puck, the pocket unit that holds the processor and battery [5].
- Plex is in the TV app. It is on Meta's list of TV app partners [1].
Can you connect a PC or Mac?
Yes. Meta's sentence is: "you have the option to connect your Mac or Windows PC wirelessly or over USB-C" [1]. It sits in the part of the post about work, next to bringing your own keyboard and mouse. Road to VR describes "wireless multi-screen virtual desktop streaming from Mac, PC or phone" [8], and UploadVR reports that a USB-C DisplayPort device such as a laptop can be plugged into the puck and shown as a virtual screen [5].
Most films are 2D: how to watch them in 3D
Convert them. Meta's announcement names six film titles for 3D [1]. Any film that was never released in 3D, and every home video, will be missing from a 3D catalog however large it grows. Owl3D, the publisher of this guide, makes the software described in this section.
There are two routes: convert a file ahead of time for the best quality, or convert a PC's screen as it plays, with no waiting.
For the best quality: convert the file
The Owl3D converter is a desktop app for Windows and Mac. It takes a 2D video file that you have the right to use and makes a 3D file from it, using AI, on your own computer. The output is ordinary 3D video.
- Start with a 2D video file you have the right to use. A film that was never released in 3D, or a home video.
- Convert it on your own computer. It is not instant. It takes a file and time, and gives the best 3D Owl3D makes.
- Export for a headset. Choose side-by-side or half side-by-side. The converter also exports top-bottom and, on a Mac, Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro.
- Play it. On a Quest, a player app such as Skybox lists side-by-side 3D [9]. Which layouts Meta VR Glasses accept is not yet published, and nothing from Owl3D has been tested on the device, since it is not on sale.
It is an AI conversion of a 2D picture. It is not the studio's own 3D version of a film. The converter has a free tier and paid plans: pricing.
StereoGen, the converter's highest-quality model, is coming soon: it generates the parts of the scene that the second eye can see and the first cannot. StereoGen is not real time: it takes hours to convert a file, and it needs an NVIDIA RTX graphics card and a separate model download. Owl3D describes it as "Hollywood-grade 3D at the highest quality".
For no waiting: convert the PC screen as it plays
Owl3D Link is an app for Meta Quest headsets. With the Owl3D desktop app running on a Windows PC, it streams what is on the PC to the headset wirelessly, converted from 2D to 3D instantly, in real time, with no file to prepare. It works from Windows only.
We expect Owl3D Link to run on Meta VR Glasses, and it has not been tested there. The reason: Meta says the glasses run the same operating system and the same Store as Meta Quest, and that most existing apps should run [4], and Owl3D Link is a Quest Store app. It will be tested when the device ships. On a Quest, Owl3D Link can be used with hand gestures alone, without controllers, which matters on glasses that Meta expects most owners to use without them.
The choice between the two is instant and live, or slower and best.
From Owl3DOwl3D converterA desktop app for Windows and Mac that turns 2D videos and photos into 3D.Will the battery last a whole film?
Up to three hours, by Meta's figure: "The battery on the puck delivers up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback, and supports 45W fast charging." [1] Three hours is 180 minutes, and "up to" makes it a ceiling.

| Film | Running time | Against 180 minutes |
|---|---|---|
| Avengers: Infinity War (announced as a VR Enhanced film [1]) | 149 minutes [10] | 31 minutes to spare |
| Avengers: Endgame (not announced for the glasses; shown for scale) | 181 minutes [11] | 1 minute over |
For a longer sitting, Road to VR's specification list says the puck can charge during use [8].
What will films look and sound like?
On paper: micro-OLED panels at 37 pixels per degree, a view of roughly 70 by 66 degrees, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. These are announced figures. The one hands-on report we read was a half-hour demo, not a review [6].

| What | Figure |
|---|---|
| Display | "5K Infinite Display built on micro-OLED panels, with 37 pixels per degree" [1] |
| Resolution | 2,412 x 2,288 pixels per eye at up to 120Hz, by reports [5], [6] |
| Field of view | Narrower than Quest 3: "roughly 70 by 66 degrees versus 110 by 96" [4] |
| Picture and sound formats | Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos audio "integrated directly into the frames" [1] |
| Weight | About 100 grams on the face [1]; reports put the puck at about 300 grams [5], [8] |
Road to VR's writer called the 70-degree view "noticeably smaller" than Quest 3's, and notes that the off-ear speakers leak sound [6]. The sides of the glasses are open, so you see the room at the edges [1], [5]; Road to VR mentions an optional light blocker [6]. The demo included a clip of Avengers: Infinity War shown inside a rendered environment that changed with the scene [6].
Frequently asked questions
Can you watch movies in 3D on a Meta Quest today?
Yes, from your own 3D files in a player app; see how to watch movies in VR. Skybox, one such app, lists side-by-side and top-bottom 3D [9]. Studio 3D films are what is new: Meta has tied a rent-or-buy store and one 3D concert film to Quest for late 2026 [1].
Will Netflix be on Meta VR Glasses?
Netflix is not named in Meta's announcement. The list for the TV app is Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Plex and Tubi "and more", with Disney+, Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+ named separately [1]. Road to VR reports that other streaming services can be reached through the glasses' built-in browser [8]. How Netflix works on a Quest today is covered in our VR movies guide.
Does Amazon Prime Video have 3D movies on Meta VR Glasses?
None is announced. Prime Video is listed as an app in the TV app, with nothing about 3D [1]. The services Meta names for 3D catalogs are Disney+, Peacock, HBO Max and Paramount+.
Where can I find free 3D movies to watch on them?
No free 3D film source is announced. YouTube is in the TV app [1], but Meta does not say that it will show 3D video on the glasses. For free 3D video that exists today, see where to find 3D videos.
Is there a monthly fee for Meta VR Glasses?
Meta's pages mention none for the device. The services have their own: Meta's footnote says "Disney+ subscription required", and for NBA games, "Subscription may be required" [1].
What can Meta VR Glasses do besides films?
Meta describes four uses: a cinema, a courtside seat for sports, a workspace with virtual screens, and a games console. More than 75 games at launch are played with hand gestures alone, the Meta Quest catalog opens up with Touch Plus controllers, and Xbox Cloud Gaming streams to the glasses with a Bluetooth gamepad, all by Meta's announcements [1], [3].
Should I buy a Quest now or wait for the glasses?
We have not tested the glasses, so this is the record, not a verdict. As announced, the glasses cost $1,299.99 and go on sale in spring 2027 [1]. The film store and the 3D concert film are tied to Quest by name, for late 2026 [1]. The Disney Immersive Cinema app is dated to the glasses' launch, and the IMAX Enhanced certification is announced for the glasses [1]. The headsets are compared side by side in Meta VR Glasses vs Quest 3 for watching movies.
