New 3D Movies: What Is in Theaters Now and What Is Coming

3D movies in theaters now, and the next ones with a date

RealD, the company behind RealD 3D showings, promotes current and coming 3D films on its home page, and each one links to a Fandango page set to 3D showings [1]. This is what those pages showed on October 11, 2026, for theaters near New York.

How long does a film stay in 3D?

Often not for its whole run, by viewers' accounts. These are two people's own reports, and we have not measured it.

• A commenter under a 2024 video on the state of 3D, about two years ago: "Plus now movies thst get 3D releases in theaters its only for like 2 weeks then they scrap it." [9]
• A commenter under a 2026 video by a 3D disc collector, about July 2026, on a film that commenter saw in a US theater: "Scream was released in 3D for a limited time upon its premiere." [10]

So if you want the 3D version, do not leave it late.

Which of 2026's 3D films can you watch in 3D at home?

For this year's films, the home 3D versions we found in October 2026 were digital, in one place. You buy or rent 3D movies in the Apple TV app on an Apple Vision Pro [5], and the app's US list "Recently Added 3D Movies" is where new ones show up [4].

Below are the six films from earlier in 2026 that RealD's page still promotes [1], with the release dates Fandango gives [2], set against Apple's list as it stood on October 11, 2026 [4].

"Not on the list" means only that. It is one list of 20 titles, and a film can be added later or sold in 3D somewhere we did not look. The same list holds The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Hoppers and Avatar: Fire and Ash [4]. The three films in theaters now are not on it. On disc. A 3D Blu-ray plays on a 3D TV or 3D projector, with no headset. In Blu-ray.com's 3D section on October 11, 2026, the one disc of a recent studio film was Avatar: Fire and Ash, from Disney, dated May 19, 2026 [6][7]. None of the 2026 films above was on its new or upcoming 3D lists that day; the upcoming titles there are older films, such as Warner's Phantom of the Rue Morgue (1954) on October 27 [7]. If the film you want has no 3D version at home

Then the remaining route is a conversion, which is not the studio's 3D version: software estimates depth from the flat 2D picture. Play the 2D film as usual on a computer, from a disc you own in its drive, a file you bought or a streaming service you pay for in a browser, and the Owl3D app converts it to 3D instantly, as it plays, with no file to prepare. How to check any new film yourself

1. Look at the ticket page. On Fandango, open the film and use the screen format filter. If 3D is one of the formats offered, there are 3D showings near you that day [2].
2. Look at RealD's home page. It shows the films RealD is promoting in 3D now and next, each with a link to 3D tickets [1].
3. For home, look in two places. Apple's "Recently Added 3D Movies" list for the digital 3D version [4], and Blu-ray.com's 3D section for a disc [7]. To check an older film, see is there a 3D Blu-ray of that film.

Frequently asked questions

Are new 3D movies shot in 3D, or converted?

Mostly converted or computer-made. In Wikipedia's list, animated films such as Toy Story 5 and Minions & Monsters are marked "Digital 3D", and live-action films such as Supergirl and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are marked "Filmed in 2D", with the companies that converted them to 3D named [8].

Can I watch a new 3D movie on a 3D TV?
