How it works
Owl3D Cloud runs the conversion on our servers, with the same AI model as our desktop app at its highest quality setting (StereoGen V2 Large). It works out how far away everything in each frame is and draws a second view for the other eye. Your computer or phone only uploads the video and downloads the result, so it needs no graphics card and nothing to install.
The result is one video file with the left-eye and the right-eye picture next to each other at full width (Full SBS), up to 4K, with the original sound. Every 3D TV, VR headset and pair of AR glasses with a 3D mode plays that layout.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
The first 3 minutes of video are free for every new account, with no card needed. That is enough to convert a short clip and see the result on your own screen. After that you pay by the minute of video, with credits or a monthly plan. The minutes are counted for 24 fps video; a 30 fps video uses 1.25 times as many and a 60 fps video 2.5 times.
Can I convert a video on Android or iPhone?
Yes. Owl3D Cloud runs in the phone's browser: sign in, pick a video from your gallery and keep the page open until the upload has finished. The conversion then runs on our servers, and we email you when the 3D file is ready. There is no app to install.
Does it work on a Mac?
Yes, in any browser, on any Mac. If you have a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer), the desktop app can also convert on the Mac itself.
How long does it take?
It depends on the length and resolution of the video and on how many videos are waiting; Cloud shows an estimate before you start. A whole film takes hours, so try a short clip first. You can close the page once the upload has finished.
Which videos can I upload?
Most video files: MP4, MOV, MKV and others, up to 3 hours, 60 fps and 100 GB. Photos are not converted in Cloud; for a photo, use the free Photo to 3D tool. A link to a YouTube or streaming video cannot be converted: upload a file you have.
What can I watch the 3D video on?
On anything that plays side-by-side 3D: a Meta Quest or another VR headset (in a player such as Skybox or DeoVR), Apple Vision Pro, a 3D TV or 3D projector, XREAL and other AR glasses, and Owl3D Shift, without glasses. On an ordinary screen it shows as two pictures next to each other. Steps for each: how to watch movies in VR and 3D TVs.
How long are my files kept?
Each 3D video stays in your Cloud library for 30 days after it is ready, then it is deleted. Download the ones you want to keep.
Online or the desktop app?
Online if your computer has no strong graphics card, if you are on a phone, or if you want to try it without installing anything. The desktop app for Windows and Mac suits you if you have an NVIDIA RTX graphics card or an Apple silicon Mac and convert a lot: it runs on your own computer, nothing is uploaded, and it also converts photos.
