Rent 3D Blu-rays by Mail: Which Services Still Do It

Updated

How we researched this: written by Owl3D from published sources, all 16 listed at the end.

Short answer

Yes, you can still rent 3D Blu-rays by mail in the US. On October 11, 2026, we found two services that list them. 3D Blu-ray Rental lists 518 3D titles, most at $6.99 a rental with free shipping both ways, or from $12.99 a month on a plan [1][3][5]. Scarecrow Video, a nonprofit video store in Seattle, had 194 3D listings by our count, at $5.00 each plus $12.00 shipping per order [6][8]. We have not ordered from either, and we read their pages from outside the US.

Key takeaways

  • One film is $6.99 at 3D Blu-ray Rental for most titles, shipping included. One title from Scarecrow comes to $17.00 with its $12.00 shipping, before sales tax. See the sums.
  • Check the wait before you order. 3D Blu-ray Rental's own FAQ says "Most titles ship within 15-30 days." See how long it takes.
  • A plan at 3D Blu-ray Rental leaves out 67 of the 518 3D titles by our count, Avatar: Fire and Ash among them. See what a plan does not cover.
  • A rented 3D disc plays in 3D only on a 3D Blu-ray player with a 3D TV or 3D projector. See what you need.

Which services rent 3D Blu-rays by mail?

These are the two services we found listing 3D discs for rent by mail, with what each one's own pages said on October 11, 2026. Counts marked "our count" are our tally of its catalog pages that day.

3D Blu-ray Rental, per rental518 titles [1]$6.99 for most; $7.99 to $29.99 for the rest [1]Free both ways [5]7 days after it arrives, by its FAQ [2]

Last checked : catalogs, prices and terms, each read on the service's own pages.

3D Blu-ray Rental ships only to residential addresses in the United States [4].

Two other mail services are not in the table. On October 11, 2026, GameFly's movies page named 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD, and DVDInbox's FAQ named 4K Ultra HD, DVD and Blu-ray; neither page mentions 3D [10][11]. Avatar: Fire and Ash, which both services above list in 3D [1][8], was offered on 4K UHD and Blu-ray at GameFly and on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD at DVDInbox [10][11]. That is one page and one search at each, not a statement from either company.

What does it cost for one film, a few, or several a month?

These are sums from the listed prices above: cost only, not a test or a rating of either service.

  • One film. At 3D Blu-ray Rental, $6.99 for most titles, shipping included [1][5]. At Scarecrow, $5.00 plus $12.00 shipping, which is charged per order: $17.00 [6][8].
  • A few films in one order. Scarecrow's envelope holds six discs, and most of its 3D listings are two-disc sets (153 of the 194, by our count) [6][8]. Three of those come to $27.00, or $9.00 a film. Three $6.99 titles at 3D Blu-ray Rental come to $20.97.
  • Several films every month. 3D Blu-ray Rental's plans work out at $6.50 a rental on the 2-rental plan, down to $5.00 on the 16-rental plan, for the titles a plan covers [3].

Left out of these sums: sales tax, which Scarecrow says its prices do not include, and the 20% discount on rental prices that Scarecrow gives its members [7]. The two also differ in due dates and late fees, set out below.

3D Blu-ray Rental: prices and plans

The company says it opened in March 2011 and ships from the Chicago area [5][2]. Its 3D category showed 518 titles on October 11, 2026. Our count of its 11 pages, by price [1]:

Price per rental 3D titles
$6.99 386
$7.99 65
$8.99 60
$9.99 to $29.99 7

Avatar: Fire and Ash is $8.99 [1].

There are six plans [3]:

Per month Rentals Works out to
$12.99 2 $6.50 each
$24.99 4 $6.25 each
$34.99 6 $5.83 each
$43.99 8 $5.50 each
$62.99 12 $5.25 each
$79.99 16 $5.00 each

A plan has no due dates or late fees, unused rentals carry over for two months, and you can cancel from your account page at any time [3]. There is no automatic queue: you pick each title yourself from a wish list [3].

What a plan does not cover. Titles priced at $8.99 or above are "not free for subscribers": you pay for each one even with an active plan [3]. In the 3D category that was 67 of the 518 titles, by our count [1]. Check the price of the films you want before you pick a plan.

When a per-rental disc is due. The company's pages give two answers. The FAQ says "7 days, or one full week, from the day the rental is received" [2]. The plan pages say "Rentals have a due date 20 days after the ship date." [3] We do not know which applies to an order; the company answers questions by email [2]. The late fee is a flat $5, and after 35 days from the ship date you may be charged the disc's retail price or market value [2].

How long does it take?

The company's FAQ makes three statements [2]:

  • An order is mailed "within 1 business day if it is immediately available".
  • Discs go by USPS First-Class Mail, and "Typical domestic delivery time is about 5–10 business days."
  • Under "How long are wait times?": "Most titles ship within 15-30 days. For some hot titles, wait times can be 30-60 days."

Each title carries a stock label. On October 11, 2026, by our count, 487 of the 518 3D titles read "In Stock", 27 "Short Wait", 3 "Moderate Wait" and 1 "Long Wait" [1]. On a plan, a title on wait still counts when you order it, not when it ships: "Limits are based on the order date, not the ship date." [3] If a disc has not arrived 14 days after it shipped, you can ask for a replacement [2].

What renters report

These are three renters' own accounts of 3D Blu-ray Rental, from 2024 to 2026: what each said happened to them, not our findings. We have not ordered and have not tested any of it.

  • A member of a 3D Blu-ray collectors' group on Facebook, January 2026: "I've rented from them before and the service was really good." [14]
  • A renter of about two years on AVS Forum, April 2025: "Generally happy, but delivery can be slow depending on the popularity of the title and how fast USPS works." [15]
  • A subscriber on AVS Forum, August 2024, on deliveries over six months: "But the average is two weeks and have some take up to a month." [16]

Scarecrow Video: 3D discs from a Seattle video store

Scarecrow Video is a nonprofit video store in Seattle that rents most of its DVD and Blu-ray library by mail [6]. Filtered to formats that include a 3D Blu-ray, its library showed 194 listings on October 11, 2026, by our count of the 10 result pages, every one at $5.00. Of these, 184 showed a "Rent By Mail" button, nine were out and one was in-store only [8].

How it differs from a mail-only service [6][9]:

  • You open an account first. Staff approve it, which "may take 1-2 business days".
  • Shipping is $12.00 an order, for up to six discs, with a prepaid return envelope. Discs are counted, not titles. Prices do not include sales tax [7].
  • You have 14 days, and that includes the time in the post. The late fee is half the rental rate for each day overdue.
  • New releases are not sent by mail.
  • Check the region code on the listing before you order; the library holds imports [7].

Its terms say most orders "should be received within one to three days depending on the distance from the store" [9]. That is its claim; we could not check it, and the pages we read do not say whether it mails to every US state.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rent a 3D movie digitally instead?

On one device we could confirm. Apple says you can "buy and rent 3D movies" in the Apple TV app on Apple Vision Pro [12]. For other services and devices, see 3D movies on streaming services.

Does Netflix still rent 3D Blu-rays by mail?

No. In April 2023 Netflix said it would wind down its DVD service and ship its final discs on September 29, 2023 [13].

Is there a 3D Blu-ray of the film I want?

Rental catalogs only hold discs that exist. 3D Blu-ray by film checks 19 often-searched titles, and 3D Blu-ray in 2026 covers new releases and where to buy.
