Stereo 3D App, Comfort Modes & Steadier Tracking (v2.3.0)

Owl3D 2.3.0 builds on everything Shift became in 2.2, and focuses on making the 3D feel effortless. Stereo 3D graduates into an app of its own in the sidebar, so switching between your side-by-side content and everything else is one click. Live 3D also gains Comfort and More Pop viewing modes โ€” now on both Windows and Mac โ€” so you can dial the depth up for impact or ease it back for long, comfortable sessions.

Under the hood, this release is all about a steadier picture: smoother eye tracking when you sit still, a verified 60fps camera on both platforms, and a gentle loading state that keeps things calm while the camera and 3D warm up. We've also fixed a batch of crashes and calibration issues you reported.

Stay tuned on our Discord channel for upcoming updates and feature announcements!

What's New in v2.3.0

๐ŸŽฎ New Features

  • Stereo 3D, now its own app: Stereo 3D playback moves out of the menus and becomes a first-class app in your left sidebar, sharing the same polished hero-card design and state handling as the rest of Shift.

  • Comfort & More Pop viewing modes: Choose how much depth you want in Live 3D โ€” Comfort keeps things easy on the eyes, More Pop pushes the depth for extra impact โ€” with a quick mode switcher. Now available on both Windows and Mac.

๐ŸŽจ Enhancements

  • Smoother warm-up: A gentle blurred loading state now covers the brief moment while your camera and 3D warm up โ€” across Calibration, Live 3D, Stereo 3D, the model viewer and the photo viewer โ€” then fades away the instant everything's ready.

  • Faster quick calibration: Re-calibrating now drops you straight back to whatever you were doing with a quick "Calibration updated" confirmation, instead of stopping on a separate done screen.

โœจ Improvements

  • Steadier eye tracking: New smoothing removes the subtle flicker you'd notice while sitting still, and the 3D effect now stays on even when your machine is under load โ€” no more sessions that quietly drop out of 3D.

  • True 60fps camera: Both Windows and Mac now capture at a verified 60fps, halving the eye-tracking interval for smoother, more responsive depth as you move.

  • Rock-steady 3D on Mac: The 3D now holds a constant 60fps on a dedicated high-priority path, eliminating the frame-rate dips that could cause discomfort.

๐Ÿ› Bug Fixes

  • Fewer crashes: Fixed a Mac crash caused by invalid tracking data, and stopped the viewer from silently quitting when a 3D model failed to load โ€” it now shows a clear error instead.

  • Reliable calibration saves: A calibration that fails to save now tells you right away, instead of silently leaving you uncalibrated the next time you launch.

  • More reliable camera startup (Windows): Fixed camera initialization issues so the camera and eye tracking start correctly on a fresh install, plus richer diagnostics when something does go wrong.

โš ๏ธ Good to Know

  • Keep your computer plugged in: Battery power noticeably reduces 3D performance. Plug in, then restart your computer for it to take effect.

  • Mac: turn off Low Power Mode: Low Power Mode also reduces 3D performance โ€” here's how to turn it off.

Looking forward to you enjoying!
