Owl3D v2.6.1 is built on your feedback: custom settings are back, and 3D is stronger by default.
Everything Converter V2 brought is in the v2.6.0 post. New to converting? Our guide to turning 2D video into 3D walks through the formats.

What's New in v2.6.1
🎮 New Features
- Custom settings are back — Under More, turn on Advanced controls to set convergence (Subject focus, Pop-out or Manual), dual-eye 3D, black bars, and a time range for one video. With Advanced controls off, nothing changes.
- Dual-eye 3D is now the default — The converter creates both eyes, for stronger 3D. Turn it off to convert faster, with less 3D.
- Your own depth map, per file — Hover a file, then choose Import depth map.
- Black bars: Detect or Off — Detect, the default, finds the black bars and leaves them flat: only the picture gets 3D, and your video keeps its size and its bars. Off makes the whole frame 3D, for edits where a dark part of the picture looks like a bar.
- See how a job is set — Hover the ⓘ on a running or finished job.
✨ Improvements
- Faster on AMD and integrated graphics (Windows) — Balanced runs faster, and finishes on AMD laptops with integrated graphics.
- 360° videos and photos — They convert as 360°. Every 2:1 file has a 360° switch.
- Mac — Balanced runs on Apple silicon, with the new converter screen, HDR10 output and Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro. The Mac app needs macOS 14 or later. StereoGen V2 needs Windows and an NVIDIA RTX 30-series or newer graphics card, so the Mac converter offers Balanced.
- Photo batches — A photo that can't be opened no longer stops the batch: the app leaves it out and names it. After a failure, the photos already saved stay in Ready to watch. Dropping a HEIC photo now says that HEIC is not supported, and photo rows no longer show fps.
- StereoGen V2 without internet — StereoGen V2 needs an internet connection. With no connection, the card now says so and suggests Balanced, which works offline, instead of retrying.
- Low disk space — The app checks free space before a download unpacks and tells you how many GB to free.
🐛 Converter fixes
- StereoGen V2 resume (Windows) — A paused video continues where it stopped.
- "We could not verify the GPU" (Windows) — No longer blocks conversion.
- Quitting the app — The converter stops when you quit the app.
- ProRes in MKV — ProRes output in MKV keeps its sound.
- Sound after a seek — A converted video from a source with subtitles keeps its sound when you skip ahead or start in the middle. This fixes a v2.6.0 regression.
- Non-English file names (Windows) — StereoGen V2 finishes for video names in Korean, Japanese, Chinese, or with emoji or accents. Before, the job failed at the end.
- Older NVIDIA drivers (Windows) — StereoGen V2 video asks you to update to driver 576.02 or later, with a link to the NVIDIA download.
- Removed files — A file you remove while it is still loading stays removed.
- Photo to 3D (Mac) — No longer stops at 92 % when its download can't be unpacked. You get a message instead.
🖥️ Shift fixes
- Windows — If the Shift panel goes missing, the app asks you to replug the display cable.
- Mac — If calibration fails, the app tells you why.
Known issues
- Mac — Scrolling the converter page while a conversion runs can feel slow.
- Mac — Live 3D can stop about 11 s after Start.
A later update fixes both.
Does StereoGen V2 use a new depth model? On the desktop, no. It uses the same video depth model as Balanced. Its new part is the AI fill for the areas one eye sees and the other can't.
Download Owl3D and try the Windows or Mac update.
