Owl3D 2.3.1 puts picture quality front and center. Live 3D is noticeably sharper and smoother โ it now locks to your Shift's own refresh rate instead of your main monitor, so motion stays clean and it holds up even with a demanding game running fullscreen. Depth looks cleaner too, thanks to higher-precision depth data.
This release also brings a refreshed Comfort mode for a gentler, easier-on-the-eyes way to view 3D, plus steadier eye tracking in low light, quicker calibration, and a batch of stability fixes. Mac and Windows ship together, with a few items landing on one platform this round (noted below).

What's New in v2.3.1
๐ฎ New Feature: Comfort Mode (Windows & Mac)
A gentler way to see 3D: Comfort depth mode now uses classic rendering for steadier, more natural depth that stays easy on the eyes over long sessions. Switch between Pop-out for more depth and Comfort for a softer 3D, right from the depth pill.
๐จ Enhancements
Session Ratings (Windows): Rate any 3D session with a quick, optional star and comment โ and if the 3D looks off, Shift offers one-tap Quick calibration on the spot.
Clearer feature names and depth modes (Windows): The depth pill reads Pop-out / Comfort, and the feature list is tidier and easier to scan โ Live 3D Screen, 3D Photo Viewer, Native 3D Media, and Model Viewer โ with refreshed card descriptions.
Easier Quick calibration (Windows): A more discoverable in-feature entry point, and a short settle delay before the countdown gives you a moment to get set.
Clearer update notice (Mac): The "update required" message now uses the native macOS alert style, so it's easier to spot and act on.
โจ Improvements
Sharper, smoother Live 3D (Windows): Live 3D now paces to your Shift's 60 Hz panel instead of your primary monitor, so motion is smoother and no longer stutters when a demanding game is running fullscreen โ and removing 8-bit depth quantization gives cleaner, smoother depth gradients.
Steadier eye tracking in low light (Windows & Mac): We bounded camera exposure and gain and refined preprocessing so tracking holds up in dim rooms. On Mac, a faster warm-up gets you into 3D sooner.
Offline-ready calibration (Mac): Shift now reuses your cached calibration to start 3D without waiting on the network.
Faster support when you need it (Mac): The diagnostic report now includes eye-tracking and camera details, so we can get to the bottom of an issue quicker.
๐ Bug Fixes
Fewer crashes on Mac: Fixed a startup crash loop on macOS 14 and a crash when reopening the app from the dock.
Quieter, more reliable startup (Windows): Fixed a VR-app auto-start error when launching from the headset, and cleaned up a stream of internal errors on non-Shift sessions.
Looking forward to you enjoying!
